FLATWATER SKILLS

DATES FOR NEXT COURSE

Thurs 2nd  & Fri 3rd September 2010  

The Flat-water Skills course will be conducted at Wellington, SA.
 
The Canoe/Kayak Lifeguard Course will be held in the last week of September at Port Augusta.

The Course takes place over 2 days (of approx 8 hours = 16 hours total) and is the starting point for paddlers who want to:

  • improve their skills and extend their ability
  • gain additional qualifications including Canoe/Kayak lifeguard, Flatwater Guide & Flatwater Instructor

Flatwater Skills course covers the following elements:

  • Introduction to Canoe/Kayaks 
  • Structure of Australian Canoeing and Canoe SA Inc.
  • Understanding weather forecasts
  • Navigation
  • Practical skills in controlling a craft in moderate flatwater conditions
The second day of the course is a day paddle where candidates will put their skills into practice and can count for assessment for the Flatwater SKills Award.
Participants should come prepared for paddling sessions in both the morning and afternoon of each day of the course.

Assessment

For accreditation candidates are required to complete:

  • Theory assignment
  • One day practical assessment
  • Submit logbook requirements

 Flatwater Skills Certificate is a pre-requisite to Flatwater Instructor

Cost of the Flatwater Skills course - $260.00 ( a discount applies where you enroll and attend a Canoe/Kayak Lifeguard Course)
