The Olympic Qualification event will be the last heat of each event and the result of this heat will determine which Oceania NOC will qualify continental quota places in the above events for Beijing 2008.
According to the ICF Qualification System. Australia can qualify a quota place in K1 500 men, K1 500 women and one C1 event. Australia has already qualified a place in the men's K1 1000 and has entered the K1 1000 event to ensure full participation in all events at the Oceania Olympic Qualification event.
Australia has also qualified 4 athlete quotas in each of the men's K4 1000 and women's K4 500 metre events.
Winning an Olympic quota does not meant an athlete will be selected to the senior or Olympic team. Athletes nominated to compete in the qualification event still have to qualify for the senior and Olympic teams according to the respective selection criteria.
