Southern Cup Slalom Championships 2009
The Southern Cup Slalom Championships is series of existing and new events designed to foster slalom racing in the Southern Hemisphere. The events are organized and advertised in order to promote racing in Australia, New Zealand and to the international community. The event is supported through Canoes Plus and the Canoes Plus Racing Team, Dagger, Liquidlife, the Victorian Slalom Committee, Slalom New Zealand, the Southern Trust and Canoe Tasmania.
The Races
14-15 Nov 2009 Southern Cup 1, Forth, Tasmania 12-13 Dec 2009 Wairoa Slalom Weekend and Bill Ross Memorial – Southern Cup 2, Wairoa, New Zealand 6 Jan 2010 Goulburn River Southern Cup 3 & Southern Cup Final, Eildon, Australia Organization and Venues:
· Southern Cup 1 – Southern Cup 1 will be held on the Forth River, near Ulverstone in Tasmania. Training will be available at the Venue on Friday Afternoon and Saturday. For information contact peckhard@bigpond.net.au. Entries to Canoe Tasmania
· Southern Cup 2 – Southern Cup 2 will be the Bill Ross Memorial race held at Wairoa, near Tauranga in New Zealand. For more information contact sueclarke@xtra.co.nz . Entries to Canoe Slalom New Zealand.
· Southern Cup 3 and Final - The slalom site on the Goulburn River is situated approx 3 km from Eildon in Victoria. For information contact dita@dagger.com.au. Entries through Australian Canoeing online.
1. Entrants must be financial members of a Canoe Club/Association affiliated with Australian Canoeing (AC) or registered with an international Canoe Federation. All racers who compete in the events will be considered for points for the overall trophy.
2. Entries for Southern Cup 3 and the Southern Cup Final are via the online entry system on the Australian Canoeing (AC) website. For entries to Race 1 and 2 contacts are listed above
3. There will be no refund of entry fees should it be necessary to cancel the event – either prior to or during the course of the competition – as a result of factors outside the control of the event organisers.
4. Age classification will be in accordance with ICF rules; that is based on January 1st 2009.
5. Classes: K1 will be offered in Masters, Open, 23 years and under, 16 years and under for men and women. C1 will be offered in Open, 16 years and under for men and women, and C2 will be offered in Open, 16 years and under for men.
Rules
1. The event shall be conducted under the Competition Rules nominated by the AC Slalom Committee (www.canoe.org.au) unless specifically stated in this document.
2. Placing will be determined by the best of two runs for all ages in Southern Cup 1 or 2 unless otherwise specified by the race organizer. There will be no qualification or semi-final preliminary events. In Southern Cup 3 and the Southern Cup Final, each run will be considered as a single event.
3. No allowances for boat sharing will be made within a class
Awards
1. Medals will be awarded for all classes as listed on the entry forms, and as determined by each organizing committee.
2. Trophies shall be awarded on a points basis where the individual has competed in at least two events of the Championships. Best three results will count towards championship points. Points will be awarded as follows:
1st – 0 points
2nd- 2 points
3rd – 3 points
4th – 4 points and so on…..
Where there is a tie, the best result in the Southern Cup Final will be used to break the tie.

Age groups
Ages for the Southern Cup Events will be as follows:
Masters - Born on or before 31/12/74
Open – Open Age
23 years and under – Born on or after 31/12/86
16 years and under – Born on or after 31/12/93
